United Mechanical’s plumbing team was a proud partner in the design-build revitalization of Building 12 at Pier 70 in San Francisco. This 70,000 square foot building was the first of many historical renovations to take place at Pier 70 and will be utilized as a multiuse space.
Building 12 is a historic building at Pier 70 that has been raised 1 level to create a basement level underneath. As a historic building, the project team was tasked with keeping the look and feel of the original building architecture while installing modern infrastructure. This included keeping and reusing the existing building steel as well as refurbishing the original storm drains from the 1920’s. Utilizing 3D scans of the building and BIM clash detection, United Mechanical’s plumbing team successfully executed the design and installation of the new plumbing systems. The scope included a new all-electric heat pump water heater system, compressed air for multi-tenant spaces on the second floor along with new domestic hot and cold water, a new sanitary sewer system, and new core restrooms.
