Stanford Bridge

Project Type: Design-Assist
Square Footage: 230,000

Project Overview

United Mechanical’s team has partnered with Stanford’s consulting engineer utilizing a design-assist project delivery approach to provide the full build-out of the mechanical systems for Stanford University’s newest ground-up project. The project consists of two interconnected buildings, creating a new cross-disciplinary hub for Data Science collaboration with scholars across the campus. The building consists of a basement and four floors, totaling 230,000 square feet, including food service spaces, offices, large event, and classroom spaces.

The mechanical system for the buildings includes semi-custom air handlers located in both the basement and on the rooftop, which will be supplied with chilled water from Stanford’s central plant. The basement air handler services the basement area and classroom spaces, while the rooftop air handler services the office and event spaces throughout the remainder of the building. The VAV re-heat system utilizes low-temperature hot water from Stanford’s central plant to create domestic and heating hot water via heat exchangers. In alignment with Stanford’s highly efficient energy goals, the building focuses on a high level of controllability for the mechanical systems, including natural ventilation in the facility offices.
